Career Highlights:

  • As Chairman of the Military Transformation Task Force, Larson protected San Antonio’s military facilities during the 2005 BRAC round. He helped turn a projected loss of more than 1,000 jobs into a net gain of nearly 11,000 jobs, establishing South Texas as the home of all medical military medical training in the United States.

  • As the lone Republican on the commissioners’ court, Larson led the effort to lower the tax rate 7 times during his 11 years in office, saving taxpayers over $150 million.

  • Larson led the 2005 effort to enact the Senior Tax Freeze which, combined with the Senior Homestead Exemption, will save taxpayers 65 and over an estimated $77 million in 2007-2008.

  • Larson voted against and refused to accept all pay raises for county commissioners, saving taxpayers more than $300,000. He currently earns half the going rate for a county commissioner.

  • Larson helped create and fund Project Push and Project Swift, programs designed to increase adoptions of young children and teenagers. In just four years, Bexar County’s adoption rate has more than tripled and now leads the nation.
